How to apply filters when searching for jobs
If you are searching for jobs on Patchwork Hub, you may have already read our How to browse for jobs on Patchwork Hub article. This outlines the information you need to know when searching for jobs on Patchwork Hub.
This article goes further, providing some additional information about applying filters when searching for jobs.
Applying filters ensures that you can find the roles that are most suited to you on Patchwork Hub.
However, you may not find anything right away if your filter is too specific, so play around and see what roles are available with some filter changes.
Once you have selected your filter options, click Search at the top of the page, or Find Jobs on the left side of the page.
There are several key ways you can apply filters. These include:
Searching by keywords
Use specific keywords to find jobs that match the exact role or skills you're looking for. For example, if you're looking for a marketing position, try entering "Marketing Manager" or "Digital Marketing" to find jobs relevant to that job title.
You may also want to type the name of an employer that posts on Patchwork Hub to show all the opportunities posted by them.
Location
This filter is based on where you’d like to work geographically. This can be a specific city, region, or country.
To enter a location, click the Select Location option and type in the location of opportunities that you may be interested in.
Once you have entered 4 or more characters, a suggested location should appear. Click the location you wish to search for.
Categories or sector
You can also filter by category to select the industry or job sector that you’d like to work in. This helps you to find jobs that align with your field of expertise or interest.
To apply a specific category, simply click the All Categories drop-down and scroll down the list of categories available. You can also use the search box to see if there is a matching category to your interest, e.g. “Marketing & Sales”.
To un-do any changes, return the option to All Categories.
Job Type
On the left-hand side of the browse jobs page, you will also see Job Type options. These include the following options:
- Full Time & Permanent
- Full Time & Temporary
- Part Time & Permanent
- Part Time & Temporary
- Full Time
- Part Time
- Fixed Term Contract
- Permanent
- Internship
- Freelance
- Apprenticeship
- Temporary
- Training Opportunity

Job Location
This option allows you to decide whether you wish to apply for the following types of roles:
- Fully Remote - these jobs are 100% remote.
- Remote Based - these jobs are primarily remote but may have in-person requirements occasionally.
- Office Based - these jobs are in-person only and are unlikely to offer any remote working options.
- Remote and/or Onsite - these jobs are hybrid and may involve a mix of remote and in-person work. These jobs may be 3 days a week in the office, and 2 days remote, or a similar arrangement.
Date Posted
You may wish to see opportunities that were posted very recently, or within a specific timeframe. You can therefore use the date posted options to filter for jobs within the:
- Last Hour
- Last 24 Hours
- Last 7 Days
- Last 14 Days
- Last 30 Days
Salary Type
Finally, you can filter jobs by Salary Type if you are looking for opportunities with certain salary expectations.
To apply salary filters, first choose from one of the following options, per:
- Hour
- Day
- Week
- Month
- Year
This will give you the option to choose a role that may be wage-based, e.g. £10.50 per hour, or salary-based, e.g. £24,000 per year.
Once you have selected the salary type, enter the range under Salary by filling in numbers in the minimum and maximum boxes. For example:
- For per hour, you may wish to enter 10 in the minimum box, and 20 in the maximum box. This means you will search for roles that are between £10 per hour and £20 per hour.
- For per year, you may wish to enter 21,000 in the minimum box, and 29,000 in the maximum box. This means you will search for roles that are between £21,000 per year and £29,000 per year.
